Confidence Destruction

I think that is what they should rename graduate school---confidence destruction---not to be a downer or anything but I am beginning to think that is what they intend. I don't think I have ever felt so stupid in all my life. Even in Bryant and Strasser's class and that is really saying something, seeing as how I never really knew what the hell they were talking about. I try to talk to my professors and they say---'youre a graduate student-you should know this by now' and 'all of my other students are doing fine' AHHHH, I keep telling myself that they can't get the best of me, that I won't give up no matter how hard they want me to. And maybe that is the point, they are just seeing who survives, but let me tell you...If I ever enter the realm of higher ed, things will be run differently. Professors shouldn't sit in any ivory tower and look down on the students. I don't even see how that is ok...or helpful in any way.

So if you are wondering where all of this is coming from, you might have guessed school isn't going horribly well and I can't wait to get out. Out into the fresh air again, hear the chirping of birds and frogs, feel breeze and smile again. School should include all of those things if you ask me. And it will if I ever have anything to say about it! :)... by the way, I heard a great interview the other day on NPR about what this man calls Nature Deficit Disorder and he seems to hit it on the head. The fact that kids don't spend any time outside and surrounded by natural things is taking a toll on their developmental processes. Once I have time I intend to read his book but I don't believe that will happen any time soon :( Well, I am off to Trail Minn. Where there is a man running a Community Supported Agricultre Farm. My group for Environmental Sociology is doing our project on CSA's and is taking a little field trip to see something local. The farmer, Erik has invited us to stay for dinner and I am looking forward to an evening spent with someone really making a difference. It sounds like he might be providing the vegetables for some summer school programs in the area as a way to shorten the food to plate chain. He does all of his work with Horses and I believe is certified organic, that I might be making up but I believe he is. Pretty cool if you ask me. Well, I should run, I will let you know how the trip goes. I love you guys and count the days to when I can see you again.
Anna
